Week 3 Project Ideas

Thinking about my final project at this stage is still quite daunting. I have cancelled out a few of my previous ideas and narrowed down a closer direction of where I want to go with my final project.

Looking back at week 2 and focusing on documentary photography, I really liked the natural element of capturing something in the moment- especially when the image turns out to be successful! (Week 2 practical). However, I didn't like how you came into a photo shoot with no clue what you would type of images you would end up with, if any at all. I am much more suited and inclined to take images when i know a visual idea of the composition and perspective of how the images are going to be taken.

Looking back at week 3 and the focus on portraiture, I instantly knew that this was a direction i wanted to pursue. I enjoy taking images of models and being able to use their character and personality to guide how i want the image to look. I enjoy capturing images and keeping Bates' 4 elements of a photograph in the back of my head to focus on how I should capture my subject.

When going forward for my final project I know that portraiture and using models is definitely going to be a key aspect of my work. However, I am still drawn to a documentary aspect, especially when researching Nan Goldin. I think it could be possible to combine the two and try to take pictures of models, but to also combine an element of letting them act as natural as possible and capturing moments which are not staged- even though the composition of the image is guided by me.

I definitely need to spend more time, researching photographers and getting a feel of different styles and what inspires me. This will be reflect and recorded on through the upcoming weeks
