Below is a screenshot of my elevator pitch. At this stage my idea is still quite early but I found this helpful to discuss this idea with my classmates to get a sense of where to move forward. After explaining my research on the photographers below, I explained that I wanted to create a portraiture themed project to symbolically show the relationship between mainstream media and our identities.
I explained that i did not want to be as literate as Cindy Sherman, who creates a parody of the stereotypes of women. Or be as sexual as the work of Marilyn Minter, who uses high fashion editorials to show a version of beauty that is impossible to achieve. Instead I wanted to build on the aspects that both photographers try to expose through my own style. I included an image of Nan Goldin's work 'Ryan in the tub' to explain that I did not want to incorporate only women alone, but both men and women of different ages and sizes. I also included the image to show my idea of a literal concealment of the body and how this can subjectively link to my idea of people concealing their identity to expose another online.
