Andreas Gursky
This week I wanted to keep to this weeks landscape theme and research a photographer in the field. Even though I know I will not be taking a landscape approach with my final project, I wanted to research through their contexts and see if any of their knowledge would inspire me and my project.
One photographer in particular i wanted to look at was german photographer, Andreas Gursky. Gursky is mainly known for large scale digitally manipulated images, capturing built and natural environments on a grand scale by splicing multiple images of the same scene. The outcome of his images create a very surreal and almost quite abstract effect. His manipulation to create monumental sized imaged radiate a sense of claustrophobia and forces the viewer to confront the overwhelming details in the image
Gursky's images present the metaphor with the idea that everything is happening all at once all over the world. His images reflect this through the aesthetic by being abstract at a distance and detailed when close up.
Gursky states 'Art should not be delivering a report on reality, but should be looking at what's behind something'
