Week 6: Rosanna Jones

Knowing that for my finals i wanted to include models in baths with an opaque liquid. I researched a photographer Rosanna Jones. Once an art student she created a series of image titled Body Part II. Jones follows the same technique of placing a model in an ominous pool of milky liquid. I would argue that these images contain a studium which i mentioned about in my previous posts. I really like how the model has edited the images to look opaque but also have an element of transparency. As an observer, i am left wondering what is beneath the water. The models look lifeless and therefore aids the connotations of isolation and loneliness. In the first set of images, the paleness and high exposure juxtaposes with the deep contrast and detail of the subjects hands and feet and therefore part of me is left looking at the subject as if they are an object, floating on the surface.

Hiding a subject under a milky/opaque substance can be of how we hide our identity in favour of the digital self. Another way of interpreting this is by symbolising how the media consumes us and takes control over the way we perceive ourselves. However, we give in to media's control over our body image and submerging beneath the surface and succumbing to the obsession we have with social media.
